Our church family will join together in 40 Days of Prayer starting on Sunday, August 23 and ending on September 30. Please pray for wisdom and God’s leading for our elders, deacons, and ministers before their leadership retreat in September at the conclusion of this prayer vigil.

SCHEDULE

Aug. 23-31: Personal Prayer Focus - Please spend this time in focused, individualized prayer, preparing your heart before we move into the more guided prayer time in the remaining 30 days.

Sept. 1 - 30: Guided Prayer & Fasting - Be sure to pick up the packet of devotional materials on Sunday, Aug. 13 (one per household). We will work through this prayer devotional as a congregation.

In a world that pressures youth to define themselves by appearance, success, or failure, God invites us to say, “Hello, I’m who He says I am!” 

Canyon’s Youth Group (6th-12th Grade) will be attending the “Sold Out!” Youth Rally, hosted at Surprise Church of Christ on the evening of Friday, Sept. 11 and all day Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration is $25 and includes admission, dinner on Saturday night, and a youth rally t-shirt.

  • If you can help chaperone or provide transportation to this event for Canyon’s youth, or if you’re interested in donating or utilizing a scholarship for a student, please contact our Youth & Family Minister, Carter Milam.

Connection Groups Kick-off & Potluck

We will be officially rebooting our Connection Groups on Sunday, September 13.  Our small groups are just one way we fill our mission of connecting people to God and to each other! 

Be sure to bring a dish to share and join us for our potluck after worship service on Sept. 13 and we can introduce you to a Connection Group leader in your area.

Our small groups meet in homes and offer a relaxed and friendly setting to get to know other people. It’s an easy way to become more involved and make friends who will encourage you in your faith.

We’ll also be having a ministry fair that day - so please stay and spend some time meeting our ministry leaders and learning about our active groups. God equips each one of us with talents, skills, and abilities to bless others and build up His Kingdom. If you have an interest or passion but aren’t sure how it fits into life at Canyon Church, this will be a great opportunity to get those questions answered.

Canyon's "Compassion in Action" Fundraiser Event

We will be showing a GREATER LOVE, found only through Christ, to women, men, and babies across the Phoenix valley by participating in the Walk for Life fundraiser to benefit Choices pregnancy centers. Here are several ways you can get involved:

  • SPONSOR our “Compassion in Action” walk team by clicking here and making a donation, or hand your donation to any walk team member. (Please make checks out to Choices Pregnancy Centers of Greater Phoenix).

  • JOIN our Walk Team and help us fundraise by going here and clicking on the “Join This Team” button. Even if you can’t join us on the actual day of the walk, you can still help us meet our goal!

  • WALK with us on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 AM in downtown Phoenix. Even if you didn’t join the team, come and celebrate with us and enjoy family fun with bounce houses, face painting, and snacks and learn more about this amazing ministry. You can walk with us or just cheer us on!

  • PRAY for the Christ-centered work at Choices, and for all the Walk Teams.

All Ages - Canyon Church Retreat

All Ages - Canyon Church Retreat

Connect with God and others! Make plans to join us Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18 for a weekend together as a church family in the cool pines of northern Arizona.  We’ll be reserving cabins at a retreat center called Camp Ponderosa, located in White Mountains, AZ. The facility includes several amenities and the cost of our stay includes meals that will be prepared for us by the camp staff.

Trunk or Treat & Chili Cook-off

Trunk or Treat & Chili Cook-off

We’ll be having an ALL-AGES Trunk or Treat and Chili Cook-off on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. We’ll have dinner together and then trunk or treating will begin at 6:15 PM. This will be a fun time for our church family to enjoy each other’s company. We’ll also be having a chili cook-off with prizes - so get out those recipes!  Please check out the schedule and details below and make plans to attend.

  • COSTUMES are welcome but not required. Come dressed up or just as you are - all are welcome! Since this is an all-ages event, we encourage silly, fun, cute, or creative costumes and recommend avoiding extremely scary or gory costumes.

  • DECORATE A TRUNK - Participating cars are asked to arrive and set-up in the parking area behind the worship building (south entrance, by the kitchen) and have their trunks decorated no later than 5:00 PM. Other vehicles should be parked on the north side of the building. CLICK HERE FOR A MAP. Please bring your own candy to hand out. Trunk and treating will begin at 6:15 PM.

  • CHILI COOK-OFF - Do you have a favorite chili recipe? Bring your chili in a crockpot (or something to keep it warm) and enter our chili cook-off. Everyone will get to sample and vote on their favorite and prizes will be awarded. CHILI CHEFS - Please be sure to sign-up on the sheet so we can plan out table space, voting cards, etc.

  • SIGN-UP SHEETS for chili, side dishes, trunk decorating, etc. will be in the auditorium and in the children’s area of the Education building. Questions? Please contact our Children’s Minister, Emma Milam.

Be sure to join us for worship service at 10:30 AM on Sunday, August 9 as we will include a special time of prayer and say a blessing over our children, school administrators, and teachers before they start the new school year. Our Youth & Family Minister, Carter Milam, will also be giving the sermon that day. And our back-to-school celebrating and praising will continue during a potluck after worship service - so please bring a dish to share, and plan on staying for lunch!

Please note, Children’s Bible Hour will not be held this day, to allow for children and families to be together for the duration of our worship service.

NEW Fall Bible Classes - Aug. thru Oct.

At Canyon, we delight in the study of God’s word. This fall, we invite you to engage in loving God deeper and connecting with others by trying out one of our new classes for adults, teens, and all ages of children.

SUNDAY MORNINGS

  • Adults - Praying with Jesus: Experiencing New Depths in Prayer class, led by Tom Riley, Dan Shewmaker, and Shawn Mullins, and meets in the auditorium. This conversational style class will focus on the prayer life and prayer teachings of Jesus.

  • Adults - Walking in the Dust: The Call of Radical Discipleship class, led by Jay Carter, meets in Room 406. Explore the cultural context of Jesus’ teachings and how that insight can lead us to practical application today.

  • Adult Women - It’s Time To… class, led by various women, meets in Room 407. Discover how God is shaping you, strengthening you, and calling you to greater spiritual maturity.

  • Young Adults (ages 18-30) - If There is No God, led by Al and Pam Larson in Room 603. This class will look at the first three chapters of Genesis as the origin of right and wrong, and examine books from several commentators on the topic, as they discuss pressing questions about life, purpose, and morality.

  • Youth (6th-12th Grade) - Study of the Book of Romans, led by our Youth & Family Minister, Carter Milam in our Youth Center.

  • Children (Newborn to 5th Grade) - Classes are offered in the Children’s area of our Education Building. Please contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Emma Milam, with any questions or visit our Children’s page for more information about our curriculum.

Our classes will help you learn to love God and his Word more and give you a chance to connect with other people. Please contact our church office with any questions about current and upcoming class offerings.

Join us in the great outdoors as we celebrate the beauty of God’s creation and enjoy connecting with each other and building deeper friendships. Our Children’s and Youth Ministries will be hosting a joint camping trip at Canyon Point Campground on July 24-26. The campground is located in the scenic Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in north central Arizona near the town of Heber.

"Won by One" Concert

"Won by One" Concert

You’re invited to join us the evening of Monday, July 13 for a night of worship and fellowship with a concert by the talented a cappella singing group “Won by One.

Won By One is made up of six students from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. Members are chosen by audition each year and must demonstrate musical ability, academic excellence, personality, and spiritual commitment.  We encourage you to check out their music on iTunes or Spotify.

Afterwards we’ll have some time to visit and enjoy refreshments. Please bring a sweet treat to share. The students will also be available afterwards to answer any questions about the educational opportunities offered at Pepperdine.

Canyon Church has thoroughly enjoyed hosting this group in the past and we know our time together will be glorifying to God and a blessing for all.  We encourage you to make plans join us and invite a friend to come with you!

School Supplies Drive

For over 17 years we have supported Central Phoenix Urban Ministry and volunteered with their outreach opportunities in downtown Phoenix.  We’re currently doing a school supplies drive in partnership with this ministry to bless low-income children with backpacks filled with everything they need to start school in August. Here’s how you can help:

  1. PICK UP: Please pick up a backpack from the auditorium.

  2. SHOP: Use the shopping list included with the backpack and fill it up with the requested supplies.

  3. DROP OFF: Completed backpacks (with the shopping list) should be turned back in to the auditorium by no later than Sunday, July 26.

Canyon’s Youth Group (6th - 12th Grade) will be participating in summer camp at Copper Basin Bible Camp in Prescott, AZ. We will be attending during Combo Week on June 28-July 3. This camp is for any student entering 6th through 12th Grade in the fall.

Canyon’s youth, along with other teens from across the state, will enjoy time together filled with worship, Bible study, games, fellowship, sports, nature walks, and more!

Youth (7th-12th Grade) - UPLIFT Summer Camp

This summer our Youth Group will be attending UPLIFT in Searcy, AR from June 13-20. UPLIFT is a summer camp held on the campus of Harding University for students entering the 7th grade through graduating high school seniors. While most campers come with their youth groups, they can also come individually. Each day, students will go to classes and hear speakers, with plenty of time devoted to recreation and entertainment as well. Click here to learn more about UPLIFT.

Join us for some splash time fun at the Liberty Bell Park Splash Pad on Saturday, June 6 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Come and go as you are able or stay for the whole time. Kids should come dressed in bathing suits and/or water shoes, or clothes and shoes that you are ok with getting wet. Don’t forget to bring a towel and sunscreen too. On the last Sunday of each month, our Young Adults group enjoys a meal together. For the month of May, they will be meeting on Sunday, May 31 after worship service in the auditorium for Laurie’s famous Taco Salad for lunch. On Sunday, May 17, during our morning worship service, we will have a special time of recognition and take a few moments to pray over Canyon’s graduating high school seniors. NEW Summer Classes - May thru July

At Canyon, we delight in the study of God’s word. This summer, we invite you to engage in loving God deeper and connecting with others by trying out one of our new classes, starting Sunday morning, May 3 for adults, teens, and all ages of children.

  • Adults - A study of the Book of Colossians will be led by Michael Jenkins in the auditorium.

  • Adults - “Merging Hearts & Minds,” a study of Acts 1-5 and Ephesians 4:1-6, will be led by Bob and Laurie Winkler in Room 407 in our Education Building.

  • Youth (6th-12th Grade) - “Practicing the Way,” a study using the book by John Mark Comer, will be led by our Youth & Family Minister, Carter Milam in Room 602 in our Youth Center.

  • Children (Newborn to 5th Grade) - Classes are offered in the Children’s area of our Education Building. Please contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Emma Milam, with any questions or visit our Children’s page for more information about our curriculum.

  • Our Young Adults (ages 18-30) class and our Adult Women’s class are both taking a break for the summer. We encourage you to try out one of our other adult classes.

WEEKDAYS

  • Wednesdays, 6:45 to 7:30 PM - Adult Men - “God’s Design for Real Men,” meets via zoom, and will be doing a study with materials from Dr. Chris Harper. Please contact Jay Carter for the Zoom link.

  • Our Adult Women’s weekday class is on hold for the summer months. They will begin meeting again in the Fall.

Baby Shower for Charity

We will be holding a “baby shower” donation drive for baby essentials, diapers and wipes, and new mom necessities for Choices Pregnancy Centers.

We encourage you to reference the list provided here for suggested donation items. Choices tells us their greatest need right now is clothing. Since January, they’ve already given away over 4,000 clothing items to babies and families in need! And their summer clothes are running out fast.

The deadline to donate items is Sunday, May 3. Donations can be dropped off Sunday mornings before or after class/worship.

Or, items can be purchased and shipped from our Amazon wish list.
